SUNSET SERENADE

August to November, 2020

In response to the pandemic, Diamond Head Theatre curated a Saturday night drive-in concert series that ran from August through November 2020. Live performances were held from an elevated balcony in the theatre’s back. The songs were performed live and broadcast through an FM radio station to a sold-out audience of 45 cars per show.

Love, Loss, And What I Wore

Love, Loss and What I Wore explores the lives of women through 28 different characters who share memories of love and loss through the lens of the clothes they wore. From wedding dresses to miniskirts, along with the search for the perfect purse, the play will be performed by five women who assume various roles throughout the show.

The play follows the love of childhood friends that spans a lifetime apart. Their correspondence begins with thank you notes and summer camp postcards and continues through school and their respective marriages until the end of their lives. Their intimacy and candor, despite their physical distance, creates an intriguing story that spans five decades and numerous locations.

The one-woman show shares the renowned wisdom of Eppie Lederer or “Ann Landers,” a real-life advice columnist from Chicago, whose highly popular column was embraced by millions of her readers as insightful, unapologetically direct, heart-warming and hilarious. Late on a 1975 night in her Chicago apartment, an ironic twist of events confronts Lederer–a looming deadline for a column dealing with a new kind of heartbreak: her own. As she shares her struggles to complete the column, the audience learns the story of the woman who, in fact, did not have all the answers.

“Forever Plaid” promises a night of nostalgia filled with pop hits of the 1950s and classic barbershop quartet harmonies. Sparky, Smudge, Jinx, and Frankie are headed to their first big gig as “Forever Plaid” when they are hit by a school bus – instantly ending their career and lives. The story of Forever Plaid however has only just begun. Through heavenly intervention, the boys come back to perform the show they never got to do in life.
