July 2025 — Diamond Head Theatre, Hawaiʻi’s “Broadway of the Pacific,” is pleased to announce the appointment of Brian C. Sullivan as its new Technical Director. With an extensive background in film, television and commercial production, Sullivan brings a creative vision, expert craftsmanship, and a newfound passion for live theatre to Hawaiʻi’s premier community stage.
Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Sullivan earned a degree in design from the University of Maryland before moving to Burbank, California, where he made a name for himself in commercial production—particularly for his precision miniature work. His exceptional attention to detail led to opportunities with Disney Studios, where he was hired to work on a Star Wars exhibit at Hong Kong Disneyland, as well as major feature films including Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood and Call of the Wild starring Harrison Ford.
In 2019, Sullivan relocated to Oʻahu to work on the reboot of Magnum P.I., and later became Construction Coordinator while working on the CBS series NCIS: Hawai‘i. While his professional background had been rooted in screen work, joining Diamond Head Theatre marks his first venture into live theatre where he’s quickly fallen in love with the venue.
Sullivan has become an integral part of the creative team. He designed and built the iconic car for Grease and since becoming Technical Director created the immersive set for Man of La Mancha, complete with custom working stairs to enhance the production.
As Technical Director, Sullivan now oversees all aspects of production and hopes to infuse each production with innovation, imagination, and technical excellence. “We have an incredibly talented team and a beautiful, state-of-the-art facility,” said Sullivan. “It’s an exciting time to dream bigger and infuse some Hollywood magic onto the stage.”
Sullivan lives in Hawaiʻi Kai with his wife, Michelle, a journalist and former theatre performer, and their son, Ryan, an artist and scenic painter at Diamond Head Theatre, who shares his father’s passion for the arts.
