Auditions

All auditions for Diamond Head Theatre productions, unless otherwise specified, are held in the DHT Rehearsal Hall. Diamond Head Theatre is located at 520 Makapuu Avenue, across the street from Kapiolani Community College. Parking is available in the theatre’s parking lot located behind the building. The Rehearsal Hall is located at the back of the theatre; enter through the door that says Costume Shop.

For musicals: At the audition, be prepared to sing (Broadway-style sheet music in your own key: no transpositions on site, no tapes, no Karaoke, no a cappella), dance (wear appropriate shoes and clothes) and read (perusal scripts available at the Diamond Head Theatre Box Office). Audition requirements may change to suit the needs of the production's director.

For plays: Auditions generally consists of readings from the script. Audition requirements may change to suit the needs of the production's director.

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN

Although Titanic requires a large cast of approximately 35 people there is no ensemble. Principle First Class Passengers double as ensemble Second and Third Class passengers and vice versa. The only children’s roles are Jack Thayer age 9 and the ship’s Bellboy age 12 – 16.

THOMAS ANDREWS - (Tenor) Designer & Builder of Titanic; late 30’s, intelligent and refined.

J. BRUCE ISMAY - (Tenor) Owner of Titanic; early to late 40’s, fastidious and slightly arrogant.

CAPTAIN E.J. SMITH - (Baritone) 45 to 60 yrs old. Dependable, wise and experienced.

FIRST OFFICER MURDOCH - (Bari/tenor) mid to late 30’s, a Scotsman (doubles as 2nd class passenger)

SECOND OFFICER LIGHTROLLER - (Baritone) mid to late 30’s (doubles as 2nd class passenger)

THIRD OFFICE PITMAN - (Tenor) early 30’s (doubles as The Major & 4th Man)

FOURTH OFFICER BOXHALL - late 20’s (doubles as 3rd class passenger)

QUARTERMASTER HITCHENS – early 20’s a Cornishman (doubles as 3rd class passenger)

HAROLD BRIDE – (Tenor) late 20’s early 30’s: A Radioman. Softspoken & gentle.

FREDERICK BARRETT - (Tenor) early to mid 20’s; A coal stoker. Rugged and self confident.

FREDERICK FLEET - (Tenor) early to mid 20’s; The Lookout. (doubles as 1st & 2nd class passenger)

JOSEPH BELL - (Bari/tenor) late 30’s to mid 40’s; Chief Engineer (doubles as Bandmaster Hartley & 3rd class Passenger)

HENRY ETCHES - (Tenor) 35 to 50 yrs old; senior 1st class steward. Refined and dedicated.

BELLBOY - 12 to 16 yrs. old (doubles as 3rd class Passenger)

STEWARDESS ROBINSON - mid 20’s to mid 30’s. The ship’s nurse/stewardess

STEWARDESS HUTCHINSON - mid 20’s to mid 30’s: Also the ship’s nurse/stewardess

FIRST CLASS PASSENGERS - (All double as 3rd class passengers)

Benjamin Guggenheim - late 40’s to early 50’s; the model of an American millionaire.
Mme. Aubert - 20 to 30 yrs. old. Guggenheim’s beautiful French mistress
John B. Thayer - mid 30’s to early 40’s; Wealthy American businessman.
Marion Thayer - late 20’s to early 30’s; Thayer’s social wife.
Jack Thayer - 9 yrs. old; The Thayer’s young son.
George Widener – mid 30’s to 40; Wealthy American.
Eleanor Widener – early to mid 30’s; wife of George
Charlotte Cardoza - mid 30’s to 40. A glamorous and mysterious woman similar to
Molly Brown.
Edith Course Evans - 20 to 30 yrs. old - A society belle (doubles as Di Marco dancer)

SECOND CLASS PASSENGERS

REQUIREMENTS

SING - Please prepare an uptempo song or ballad from the traditional Broadway Repertoire (i.e. Rodgers & Hammerstein, Lerner & Loewe, etc.). No contemporary Broadway repertoire: i.e. Les Miserables, Wicked, Miss Saigon, Rent, Spring Awakening, Phanton, etc. Bring sheet music in your own key. No transpositions on site, no a capella, karaoke, or tapes will be allowed. An accompanist will be provided.

DANCE - Please bring appopriate dance wear (clothes/shoes) as you may be asked to dance.

READ - Those auditioning should be prepared to read from the script. Perusal scripts available at the Diamond Head Theatre Box Office, Monday-Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.  Material is copywritten and must be read on -site.

 


REHEARSALS

Rehearsals begin immediately. Rehearsal schedule determined by director.


PERFORMANCES

TITANIC THE MUSICAL plays March 30 - April 15, 2012
Regular performance times are Thursday and Friday at 8:00 p.m., Saturday at 3:00 p.m.* and 8:00 p.m., and Sunday at 4:00 p.m.

* Saturday 3:00 p.m. matinees are on April 7 and 16.
