DIAMOND HEAD THEATRE OPENS
ITS
2006-2007 SEASON WITH "THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE"
Honolulu, HI, August 28,
2006-Diamond Head Theatre (DHT) is pleased to announce
that the Hawaii Premiere of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE will open its
2006-2007 season on Friday, September 22, 2006. Single tickets for
the show, as well as the entire season, are on sale now.
Based on the popular movie, the stage version of THOROUGHLY MODERN
MILLIE was 2002's most awarded new show on Broadway, taking home
six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Set in New York City in
1922, the musical tells the story of small town girl Millie Dillmount,
who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.
It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were
entering the workforce, becoming moderns and changing the rules.
Millie has decided to marry rich, despite living in a girls' rooming
house with a sinister landlady, Mrs. Meers, a dragon-lady villainess
audiences will love to hate. Her plans go awry when she meets sweet,
but penniless Jimmy.
Guest directed and choreographed by Darren Lee, with musical direction
by Emmett Yoshioka, the cast features: Shawna Masuda as Millie Dillmount,
Cathy Foy as Mrs. Meers, Alison Maldonado as Muzzy Van Hossmere,
Tricia Marciel as Dorothy Brown, Pedro Haro as Jimmy Smith, Elitei
Tatafu Jr. as Ching Ho, Gary Masuoka as Bun Foo, Mikel Humerickhouse
as Trevor Graydon, and Jodi Leong as Miss Flannery.
The ensemble includes: Morgen Chang, Rachel DeGenaro, Yvonne Yanagihara
Goss, Elizabeth Harrison, Friston Ho'okano, Sean Jones, Kathryn
Lee, Sandra Lee, Kyle Malis, Christy Joy Matsushige, Twan Matthews,
Brad Mezurashi, Jessica Quinn, Chris Villasenor, Viet Vo, and Candace
Yoshioka.
The creative team is comprised of the assistant to the director
Melanie Lockyer, set designer Willie Sabel, costume designer Karen
Wolfe, lighting designer Stephen Clear, sound designer Mikel Humerickhouse,
make-up and hair designer Jess Aki, props designer Douglas Scheer,
and production stage manager Nicole Sullivan.
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE will run from September 22 - October 8,
2006 with shows at 8 p.m. Thursday through Saturday and at 4 p.m.
on Sundays. Saturday matinees at 3 p.m. are on September 30 and
October 7. Single tickets are priced from $12 to $42, with discounts
available for full time students, seniors 62 and older, and active
duty military. Call 733-0274 to charge-by-phone. Tickets are available
24 hours a day, seven days a week with DHT's online ticketing system.
