Based on the popular movie, the stage version of THOROUGHLY MODERN
MILLIE was 2002's most awarded new show on Broadway, taking home
six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Set in New York City in
1922, the musical tells the story of small town girl Millie Dillmount,
who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself.
It's a New York full of intrigue and jazz - a time when women were
entering the workforce, becoming moderns and changing the rules.
Millie has decided to marry rich, despite living in a girls' rooming
house with a sinister landlady, Mrs. Meers, a dragon-lady villainess
audiences will love to hate. Her plans go awry when she meets sweet,
but penniless Jimmy.
The show is sponsored by: Continental Airlines, First Hawaiian Bank,
Hawaiian Telcom, ABC Corporation, McCabe, Hamilton and Renny, and
the Richard Aadland Trust.
THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE opens Diamond Head Theatre's 92nd Anniversary
Season. Heralded as Hawaii's "Broadway of the Pacific",
Diamond Head Theatre has delivered the best in live community theatrical
entertainment since 1915. The theatre showcases Hawaii's finest
local talent, frequently brings in guest artists and supports performance
arts education through a variety of community programs, including
the acclaimed Shooting Stars.
