THROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE (Musical)
Book by Richard Morris and Dick Scanlan
Music by Jeanine Tesori
New Lyrics by Dick Scanlan

September 22 - October 8, 2006

Based on the popular movie, the stage version of THOROUGHLY MODERN MILLIE was 2002’s most awarded new show on Broadway, taking home six Tony Awards including Best Musical. Set in New York City in 1922, the musical tells the story of small town girl
Millie Dillmount, who has just moved to the city in search of a new life for herself. It’s a New York full of intrigue and jazz — a time when women were entering the workforce, becoming moderns and changing the rules. Millie has decided to marry rich, despite living in a girls’ rooming house with a sinister landlady, Mrs. Meers, a dragon-lady villainess audiences will love to hate. Her plans go awry when she meets sweet, but penniless, Jimmy. A high energy, non-stop, tap dancing show. A Hawaii premiere.

“A thoroughly delightful experience.” - USA Today
“You can’t see this kind of whirling, transporting pop entertainment anywhere else!”

CINDERELLA (Musical)
Music by Richard Rodgers
Book and Lyrics by Oscar Hammerstein II
December 1 - 17, 2006

After its very successful run five years ago, DHT is pleased to again present the classic, CINDERELLA…a musical filled with wonderful songs, wicked (but hilarious) stepsisters, a lovingly pompous king and of course the glass-slippered heroine, Cinderella. Originally presented on television in 1957 starring Julie Andrews, Rodgers and Hammerstein’s CINDERELLA was the most widely viewed program in history. Its recreation in 1965 starring Lesley Ann Warren was no less successful in transporting a new generation to the miraculous kingdom of dreams-come-true. Now as adapted for the stage, with great warmth and more than a touch of laughter, the hearts of children and adults alike still soar when the slipper fits. Musical Highlights: “In My Own Little Corner”, “Do I Love You Because You’re Beautiful”, “Ten Minutes Ago”.

LEND ME A TENOR (Play)
Written by Ken Ludwig
February 2 - 18, 2007

The appearance of the opera star Italian tenor Signor Tito Merelli will be the highlight of the Cleveland Grand Opera Co.’s most important fundraiser of the season. But, luck is not on his side, and he is presumed dead after passing out due to a series of mishaps. When a “Dear John” letter is mistaken for Tito’s suicide note, the company stands to lose $50,000 in ticket sales unless they can find a way for the “dead” singer to deliver the performance of his life! With seven Tony Award nominations, LEND ME A TENOR is a wild romp of mistaken identities and disguises, with many entrances and exits through many doors and scheming behind the scenes in every corner.

SWEET CHARITY (Musical)
Book by Neil Simon
Music by Cy Coleman
Lyrics by Dorothy Fields
Based on an original screenplay by Federico Fellini, Tullio Pinelli and Ennio Plaiano

March 23 - April 8, 2007

SWEET CHARITY is a tender, poignant and humorous look at the adventures, or rather the misadventures, in the ways of love encountered by the gullible innocent known as Charity Hope Valentine. Charity is a dance hall hostess who always gives
her heart and her dreams to the wrong man. Her world is the all too real world of Times Square and the people who pass through are a deceptively charming group. After a succession of losers, Charity finds Mr. Right when she is trapped with him in an elevator…but will it stick? The 1966 stage version inspired the popular movie starring Shirley MacLaine. The most recent Broadway revival in 2005 starring Christina Applegate garnered three Tony nominations. Memorable songs: “Big Spender”, “If My Friends Could See Me Now”, “There’s Gotta Be Something Better Than This”.

GIGI (Musical)
Book and Lyrics by Alan Jay Lerner
Music by Frederick Loewe
Based on the novel by Colette

May 18 - June 3, 2007

A “Best Picture” Oscar-winning movie in the late 1950’s starring Leslie Caron, Louis Jourdan and Maurice Chevalier, GIGI gave way to the stage version in 1973, keeping all of its charm. The story is set in turn of the century Paris where Gaston Lachaille is a bon vivant. But Gaston is becoming bored with the high life…especially the women. He only truly enjoys the time that he spends with one of his uncle’s old “friends”, Madame Alvarez, and her grand-daughter, the precocious and carefree Gigi. During the course of their friendship, Gigi progresses from a Parisian gamine to a beautiful young woman and Gaston falls in love with her. But Gigi unlike her courtesan relatives wants to be a wife not a mistress and in a bit of a reverse scandal, Gaston finds himself vying for Gigi’s hand in marriage! Features such memorable songs as “Thank Heaven for Little Girls”, “I Remember It Well”, “The Night They Invented Champagne”, and the beautiful title tune, “Gigi”.

“Provides quite an entertaining evening.”

YOU SOMEBODY (Musical)
Written by Lee Cataluna
Music and Lyrics by Keola Beamer

July 13 - 29, 2007

Welcome to YOU SOMEBODY, the world of “Pua (Ma) Lusa.” Wildly over the top, Ma Lusa is determined to make up for her own less than successful stage career. She embarks on a zany quest to make her family famous through a series of misguided, always hilarious attempts to win a contest, any contest — from pageants to keiki hula, from karaoke to ukulele — always thwarted by the perfect, talented Baga family. YOU SOMEBODY will tickle the funny bone with the story of a lovable but singularly untalented family trying to live up to a stage mother’s dreams of local glory. Musical highlights: “Dream a Small Kine Dream”, “It Sucks”, “You Somebody”.

“Brimming with warmth…and good feeling!”
- The Honolulu Advertiser
“Nearly all the scenes are funny…some are truly inspired.” - Honolulu Weekly
